Charley's Aunt
by
BRANDON THOMAS
Produced
by MADELEINE GAIR
Performed in April 2009
"I'm
Charley's aunt from Brazil—where the nuts come from!"
This is the
evergreen farce set in Oxford in the days when young ladies could not
be seen in polite society without a chaperone.
Undergraduates
Jack and Charley persuade their chum Fancourt Babberly to impersonate
Charley's wealthy aunt as a ruse to invite their sweethearts Kitty and
Amy to tea. All is fine until Jack's father decides to pursue
the 'old lady' for her hand in marriage, in competition with the girls'
crotchety old guardian, Stephen Spettigue.
And then the real aunt
turns up!
A
play in costume always goes down well with our audiences, and this was
no exception.
