While their wives are away on a trip to Paris, George Roper's friend Humphrey Pomfrey persuades him to indulge in some illicit nookie. Unfortunately for George, a reluctant Romeo at the best of times, Humphrey's mistress, the bubbly Jennifer, insists on bringing her dowdy and depressed friend Shirley along to the shenanigans in the hope that it will cheer her up. But then, of course, the wives, Mildred and Ethel, make an early–and unexpected–return home. And that's when the fun really starts! When the Cat's Away is a spinoff from the popular 1970s sitcom George and Mildred, which once had the distinction of being the most watched programme in TV history in New Zealand. A daunting prospect for the Valley Players, then, to take on this funny farce!
