Pompous, overbearing widower Henry Horatio Hobson tries to run a boot shop in Salford with his three daughters with a firm hand – or so he thinks. Actually it's his eldest daughter, Maggie, who really runs the business. When she threatens to marry the boothand, Willie Mossop, and set up a rival shop, it can only spell trouble for Hobson. Maggie sets out to turn Willie, a talented craftsman but timid and illiterate, into a businessman, while Hobson can only watch his own business decline. When the Mossops eventually return to his shop, it is under greatly altered circumstances. For the petty tyrant of former days it truly is 'Hobson's Choice.' This classic comedy set in late Victorian times proved very popular with our audiences.
