Whoever said that opposites attract obviously didn't know about Oscar Madison and Felix Ungar. When Felix fails to turn up at Oscar's New York apartment for the usual poker game, the gang is worried. When he does appear he reveals that his wife has left him and he threatens to end it all. Oscar and the boys, Vinnie, Speed, Roy and Murray, manage to calm him down and Oscar allows him to stay in his apartment until Felix can turn himself around. Unfortunately the clash between Oscar's slobbishness and Felix's fastidious lifestyle almost ruins their friendship, and breaks up the jolly evening Oscar plans with two English sisters living in New York, Cecily and Gwendolen Pigeon. Fortunately for the audience watching, this produces a night of great comedy, brimming with razor sharp dialogue. The Odd Couple remains Neil Simon's best known play.
